Each year, the Darcy Hart Award is given to an individual or group, who takes that extra step in forwarding the Breathe New Hampshire mission. Darcy Hart was an outstanding volunteer with the organization, a beloved and respected 5th grade teacher who taught tobacco prevention to his students, an elite athlete and cyclist, and most of all a kind humanitarian. Darcy passed away in December of 1999 and is sorely missed by the many people whose lives he profoundly touched.
One of his notable achievements was cycling across the United States while raising money for the organization. He had a unique passion for both cycling and philanthropy, and shared these gifts through his involvement with the Seacoast Bike Tour for many years. His charismatic and caring soul stays with us all.
Previous recipients of the Darcy Hart Award include: The Peaslee Family, Jim Werecynski, Steve Tacopina, Doug Verbeck, Central NH Amateur Radio Club, Leo Glasheen, Steve Many, Peter Markey and Diane Littlefield.
Danny Marchand became involved with Breathe New Hampshire approximately fourteen years ago in a myriad of different roles. He has worked tirelessly as a Bike Tour committee member for close to ten years, recruiting many riders and volunteers while also helping to promote the event, secure prizes and plan logistics. The Seacoast Bike Tour is Breathe New Hampshire’s oldest and largest fundraising event. Danny not only serves on the committee, but also rides each year in the event raising critical funds for lung health programs. In addition, he has served as the Bike Tour Team Captain for seven years for our largest corporate team before handing this role over to another. Clearly proud of the company he works for, Danny invites the Bike Tour committee to hold its monthly meetings and annual phone-a-thon at his place of business, Public Service of New Hampshire, each year. Danny should also be commended for the wonderful example given to his two sons, encouraging them to get involved by showing them the importance of community involvement and volunteerism. Not only do his sons continue to ride in the event, they also participate as Bike Tour committee members. Danny’s sons began riding in the event in 4th grade and are now seniors in high school.
